The big security snafu in the news lately was the hijacking of several e-billing sites and redirecting them to other websites designed to extract banking information out of users. Unfortunately this is a harder scam to spot than most others even if you understand how domain names work.

These are just a few simple guidelines on what to look for when dealing with any type of electronic correspondence between yourself and a company. If you are ever in doubt it is always best to contact the company and ask them directly if the e-mail is legitimate or not. Most companies would rather have you contact them directly then have to deal with stolen information.

“If something sounds too good to be true it probably is.” Good advice today just as it was years ago when I first heard it. A good thing to remember is that unsolicited E-Mail schemes are never legitimate. If something sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam.
